Sri Lanka plans to launch direct flights between Colombo & Ahmedabad from April

Sri Lanka is planning to launch direct flights between Colombo and Ahmedabad from April this year, in a move aimed at strengthening air connectivity and boosting religious tourism between the two countries.

Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ruwan Ranasingha, said Sri Lankan Airlines is expected to operate the new route, making travel easier for devotees visiting key pilgrimage sites in Gujarat. He noted that the service would provide a convenient and faster option for religious travellers and tourists. Earlier last year, during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka, both sides emphasised enhancing connectivity and people-to-people links as part of broader bilateral cooperation.

The Colombo-Ahmedabad route is expected to further deepen cultural ties, promote tourism, and reflect the growing momentum in India-Sri Lanka relations, especially with Gujarat emerging as an important hub for spiritual and heritage travel.
