Sri Lanka flags vulnerability due to lack of fuel storage infrastructure

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath has said that lack of fuel storage infrastructure has left the island nation vulnerable. Speaking in Parliament, the Minister said that the government had signed a memorandum of understanding to build a multi-product fuel pipeline with India and UAE with an aim to transform Trincomalee into a regional energy hub.

Mr. Herath criticized previous administrations for failing to invest in fuel reserves, arguing that stronger infrastructure could have mitigated past shortages during global crises.
The minister added that renovation work at Trincomalee has already begun using Treasury funds, describing the project as a long-term solution to shield the island nation from future energy shocks.
