Sri Lanka CID files 3 key allegations against Former Intelligence Chief Suresh Salley in Easter Bombings Probe

In Sri Lanka, the Criminal Investigation Department has informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that it has filed three key allegations linked to investigations into the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Sunday bombings against the former State Intelligence Service chief Maj. Gen. (Retd) Suresh Salley. The former intelligence chief has been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act as a suspect for allegedly misleading probes into the Vavunathivu police killings and the Sainthamaruthu explosion.

Investigators also alleged that an intelligence informant was used to show St. Sebastian’s Church, Katuwapitiya, one of the Easter attack targets, to the extremists before the bombings. The CID further told the court that Mr. Salley pressured investigators to conduct a third DNA test linked to Sara Jasmine, despite two earlier tests failing to confirm her death after the Sainthamaruthu blast. Salley’s lawyers rejected the claims, saying he was in Malaysia at the time of the Easter attacks.
