Sri Lanka: 24 houses Inaugurated in Thiruvalluvar Kudiyieruppu Model Village, Kilinochchi

Twenty-four houses were handed over to the beneficiary families as the Thiruvalluvar Kudiyieruppu Model Village in Kilinochchi was inaugurated today. High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Urban Development, Anura Karunathilaka, jointly inaugurated the model village project and handed over the houses.

The model village is part of a broader initiative under the India-Sri Lanka Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017. The project, implemented in all 25 districts of Sri Lanka with Indian grant assistance, provides housing for 600 low-income families. Each district receives a village of 24 homes, selected by District Housing Committees.

So far, 12 model villages have been completed across Sri Lanka, including Jaffna, Batticaloa, and Colombo. With over 96 percent of the project finalised, the remaining villages are expected to be handed over shortly.
