South Africa beat Pakistan by 150 runs in a rain-affected round robin league match of the ICC Women’s World Cup in Colombo last night. Marizanne Kapp’s all-round brilliance and Laura Wolvaardt’s elegant 90 helped South Africa in crushing Pakistan via DLS method. After initial delay, the match was curtailed to 40-over per side with South Africa scoring 312 for 9 riding on Laura Wolvaardt’s 90 and half-centuries from Sune Luus (61) and Marizanne Kapp (68).
With this win, South Africa not only propelled them to the top of the points table but also sealed Pakistan’s exit from the competition. South Africa now have 10 points from six games and at least for a day, they would be above Australia and England — both on 9 points and pitted against each other at Indore today.
