The Government said that solar panels have been installed over vacant rooftops of more than ninety one thousand government buildings with the capacity of over eighteen hundred megawatt. Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik informed this in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today. He informed that solar panels have been installed over more than 78 thousand government buildings of States and Union territories.
The Minister said that All Central Government Ministries and Departments have also been requested to issue necessary directions for installation of rooftop solar plants on all buildings owned by them. The initiative to install solar panels on government buildings is part of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to saturate all technically feasible government rooftops with solar power.
