Smartphones now tools of empowerment: Communications Minister

Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that smartphones are no longer merely a means of communication but have become tools of empowerment and gateways to the world of information. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the 22nd edition of Bharat Telecom 2025 in New Delhi today, Mr Scindia mentioned that India has emerged as the second-largest telecom market in the world. He noted that the country has reached 1.2 billion mobile users. The Minister highlighted that the number of broadband users has surged from 60 million users a decade ago to over 950 million today. He also noted that internet users have increased from 250 million to 970 million.

Bharat Telecom 2025 is organised by the Telecom Export Promotion Council. The two-day event has brought together potential buyers from around the world to engage in business-to-business meetings with Indian telecom equipment and software manufacturers, as well as ICT service solution providers. The event features conference sessions, exhibitions, and B2B meetings, where the leading Indian telecom manufacturers and IT service providers are showcasing their capabilities.
