The Smart India Hackathon 2025, one of the country’s largest student innovation initiatives organised by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will be held across India on the 8th and 9th of December. Puducherry is hosting a Software Edition of the Grand Finale at Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering & Technology, Ariyur, which has been selected as a nodal centre by the Ministry of Education and AICTE.
Teams from different parts of the country will arrive in Puducherry to work on four major problem statements, including a Blockchain-based Blue Carbon Registry, an AI and machine learning-driven Rake Formation Optimiser for SAIL, an AI-enabled Vessel Scheduling and Logistics Optimiser, and an AI-based Energy Efficiency System for Iron Ore Mining. Students will work continuously for 36 hours to develop functional prototypes aimed at addressing real-world challenges. Winning teams will receive cash prizes of up to one lakh rupees or more, depending on the complexity of the problem, along with continued financial, academic, and technical support to take their solutions towards implementation.
Talking to Akashvani, Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering & Technology Principal S. Pradeep Devaneyan said that brilliant minds from all over India is going to compete in the grand finale. The institution has made all arrangements to host the event with the required technical infrastructure, mentoring support, and facilities for participants, jury members, and industry experts. The Hackathon aims to promote innovative thinking, bridge academic knowledge with practical application, and support national missions such as Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
