Six people have lost their lives, and around twenty others were injured in a train accident near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, this evening.
The incident occurred around 4 PM when a passenger train collided with a stationary goods train near Lal Khadan. Railway, district administration, and police teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations at the site.
The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals. The Railways has issued helpline numbers for the convenience of passengers and their family members.
Help desks have also been set up at Raipur, Durg and Bhatapara railway stations in Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, the Railways have announced ex-gratia compensation.
Ten lakh rupees each will be given to the next of kin of the deceased, and five lakh rupees to those grievously injured and one lakh rupees to those who sustained minor injuries.
The Railways have also decided to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident through the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
District Collector of Bilaspur Sanjay Agrawal said the rescue operation is underway.
