A devastating fire at a perfume warehouse in north-western Turkey has killed six people. The blaze erupted this morning in the Mimar Sinan neighbourhood of Dilovasi, Kocaeli Province. Governor Ilhami Aktas said five people were hospitalised, including one person in critical condition at a burns unit.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced a judicial investigation, while the labour ministry also launched an inquiry into the incident. Dilovasi, located about 70 kilometres east of Istanbul, is an industrial hub home to numerous factories and storage facilities. Emergency services battled the flames for hours before bringing the blaze under control.
