The Sikkim government has intensified patrolling and checking at vital places in the wake of the current situation in Nepal.
Police sources said that senior officials in Soreng and Gyalshing districts have been instructed to conduct joint patrolling with the SSB and also to monitor the present situation.
All concerned border check posts, particularly at Rangpo, Melli, Reshi, among others, have been alerted to ensure that unauthorised persons do not enter Sikkim. The police have also been instructed to check vehicles.
Apart from that, the concerned DIG and SPs have been told to visit sensitive areas to prevent any kind of illegal infiltration from the neighbouring country.
Meanwhile, Security has been heightened along the India-Nepal border, near Uttarakhand, due to recent unrest and political upheaval in neighbouring Nepal.
In the border regions, intensive checking, patrolling, and combing operations are being conducted jointly by the SSB and the police. Champawat District Magistrate Manish Kumar stated that police and SSB have tightened surveillance along the international border.
Close watch is being maintained on any suspicious activity. He mentioned that the district administration is monitoring the situation closely.
