Sikkim chief secretary VB Pathak today chaired a meeting with the Ambassador of Thailand to India Ms. Pattarat Hongtong and other delegates from the Embassy of Thailand at Tashiling Secretariat, Gangtok.
Mr. Pathak spoke about the need to collaborate and develop strategies to improve bilateral cooperation between Sikkim and Thailand, focusing on similarities in terms of culture, religion (Buddhism) and cuisines.
Some of the key areas discussed were pilgrimage and wellness tourism, road shows in Sikkim and Thailand, handicrafts and textile product development and upskilling, food processing, export of organic Sikkimese produce, technological support and processing of Yak and dairy products.
Ambassador of Thailand Ms. Pattarat Hongtong suggested an official proposal to be placed before the Thai Government by the Sikkim government. The ambassador also requested for a Thai person to be designated as a point-of-contact for Thai tourists in Sikkim.
