Sikkim joined the Nation in celebrating the National Sports Day to pay tribute to the Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand on his Birth Anniversary today. The Sikkim Government organised the state-level celebration of the National Sports Day 2025 from today to 31st August with a series of sporting activities.
Minister of Sports, Government of Sikkim, Raju Basnet, graced as the Chief Guest. The celebration has witnessed the felicitations of sports achievers and promoters, and Sporting activities, including the Chief Minister 1 Mile Run, Passing of Ball and Tug of War, demonstration of golf and an exhibition match between Ex- Hostellers and the present batch of the State Sports Academy, Gangtok. In his address, the Minister stressed that sports were very important to stay fit and healthy, physically and mentally and emotionally balanced.
He said the sports and physical activities would help children not only to stay fit and healthy but also keep them away from unhealthy activities.
On the same note, he urged the people and especially youngsters to dedicate their at least 30 minutes to one hour daily in sports and healthy activities to stay fit physically and mentally and emotionally balanced.
