Sikkim Celebrates 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram

In Sikkim, 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram was celebrated today at Manan Kendra in Gangtok. Governor of Sikkim Om Prakash Mathur was present as Chief Guest. On this occasion Mr. Mathur said, Vande Mataram is not just a song, but it is the soul of Mother India. He said, this is the mantra of the consciousness of the freedom struggle and the unity of the nation.  
 
 
The Governor highlighted the historical journey of this song mentioning that the song was composed by prolific writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875. The Governor paid tribute to Sikkim’s freedom fighters Vande Pokhrel (Trilochan Pokhrel) and Helen Lepcha (Savitri Devi), who actively participated in the uncooperative movement and Charkha movement and lived the spirit of Vande Mataram in their life.
