Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan today released in advance the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi PM-KISAN scheme for flood and landslide-affected farmers of Jammu and Kashmir.
The installation was released through video conferencing from Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi. Under this instalment, 171 crore rupees have been directly transferred to the bank accounts of eight lakh 55 thousand farmers, including over 85 thousand women farmers. With this, farmers in Jammu and Kashmir have received a cumulative assistance of four thousand 52 crore rupees under PM-KISAN so far.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chouhan said that the Narendra Modi Government stands shoulder to shoulder with farmers and people affected by floods and other natural calamities in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said, the Government will ensure that no farmer is left alone in this hour of crisis, and the release of this PM-KISAN instalment is a crucial step to help them meet immediate needs. Mr Chouhan informed that the Rural Development Ministry has sanctioned over 85 crore rupees under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY-Gramin for the reconstruction of around five thousand damaged houses, as reported by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
He said the package includes financial assistance for toilet construction and additional funds under MGNREGA, enabling families to rebuild their homes. The Minister announced that MGNREGA workdays will be increased from 100 to 150 days for affected households upon receipt of the Jammu and Kashmir government’s proposal, providing them with additional livelihood support.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar also addressed the event, expressing gratitude to Mr Chouhan for his timely intervention. They also thanked Mr Chouhan for his recent visit to the affected areas and his proactive approach in ensuring relief and rehabilitation.
