Today is the 11th of September. This day marks the 133rd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. The Bharatiya Janata Party BJP has organised a seven-day-long Narendra Cup Football Tournament in West Bengal.

BJP state president and Rajya Sabha member Shamik Bhattacharya inaugurated the event at Dasnagar in Howrah district today. He said Swamiji showed the path on how cultural nationalism can lead to peace. The football tournament will conclude on 17th September, the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is also the day of the Viswakarma puja celebration.

On the other hand, the Government of West Bengal, in collaboration with the Indian Football Association -West Bengal, also organised the Swami Vivekananda Cup district-level club football tournament. Today, State Youth and Sports Minister Arup Biswas inaugurated the tournament at the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandir sports ground at Belur Math. This tournament will continue till 26th March 2026.
