In Manipur, the flood situation remains grim with different places of valley districts, especially Imphal East and Thoubal districts, still inundated under water. In Ukhrul district, incidents of landslides took place in the last few days due to incessant rainfall, thus affecting passenger and commercial transportation. Considering the situation, the State Government extended the holiday for all Schools and Colleges in the State till today.
Most of the major rivers flowing through the valley district have been flowing above the warning level. The Thoubal River is overflowing in different places, and water spills out from river bank, causing flooding in villages and paddy fields. The Imphal river, Iril river and Nambul River are flowing above flood level, and the breach of the Iril river in Imphal East district yesterday could not be fully repaired till today. The flooding situation in Lamlai Assembly Constituency of Imphal East district has worsened today, and the water level has been rising in different villages and paddy fields in the constituency. Repairing of river bank flowing in these districts has been going on.
In an aim to decrease the water level of major rivers, all gates of Ithai Barrage remained open, and some gates of Imphal Barrage and Thoubal Barrage have been opened to regulate the water level of these rivers. Meanwhile, those affected by the flash flood have been taking shelter in relief camps, and concerned authorities are providing essential commodities to them.
