Several human rights organisations in Pakistan sound alarm over rising disappearances in Balochistan

Several prominent human rights organisations and activists in Pakistan have recently spoken out against the enforced disappearance of a lecturer named Balach Khan Bali by Pakistani forces in Balochistan. This incident is seen as part of an ongoing pattern of persecution in the region, which includes a rise in disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and torture.

According to Paank, the human rights wing of the Baloch National Movement, 36-year-old Balach Khan Bali was allegedly abducted by personnel from the Pakistan Army on December 3rd from Salala Bazar in Turbat city, Kech district, while he was on his way home from the market. The Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) strongly condemned the abduction, characterising it as a continuation of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. They called on human rights organisations to look into Balach’s case, demanded transparency, and urged his immediate release. Additionally, BVJ emphasised the importance of conducting credible investigations into the conduct of Pakistani security agencies within Balochistan.
