Sensex rises 317 points to 82,815; Nifty gains 117 points

Benchmark domestic equity indices the Sensex and the Nifty bounced back today, rising around 0.4 per cent. The Sensex climbed 317 points to close at 82,815, while the Nifty added 117 points to settle at 25,571. The markets opened on a negative note, but early losses were swiftly erased as value buying lifted sentiment. However, towards the end of the session, the indices trimmed some of their intra-day gains.
 
In the forex market today, the rupee depreciated by 30 paise to trade at 90 rupees and 98 paise against the US dollar, a short while ago.
 
In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading over half a per cent down at 71 US dollars and 25 cents per barrel, and WTI Crude was also trading over half a per cent down at 66 US dollars and 7 cents per barrel in intra-day trade. 
 
In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading up at 1,56,940 rupees per 10 grams, while silver 999 fine was trading on higher note at 2,52,470 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
