Sensex, Nifty up over 1.2% tracking global relief rally after Trump claims Iran-Israel ceasefire

The benchmark domestic equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, were trading around 1.2 per cent up in the forenoon trade today, tracking a global relief rally after US President Donald Trump claimed a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Israel and Iran. On the sectoral front, barring media, all other sectors were trading with strong gains. The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 1,014 points, to 82,911, and the NSE Nifty50 jumped 311 points, to 25,283, when reports last came in.

Meanwhile, oil prices fell sharply amid the possibility of de-escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict, alleviating worries of supply disruptions. Brent Crude was trading almost 3.8 per cent down at 68 dollars and 77 cents per barrel, while WTI Crude was trading over 3.9 per cent down at 65 dollars and 80 cents per barrel, a short while ago. The Indian rupee also strengthened, trading at 86.17 against the US dollar.
