Sensex & Nifty Rebound After Four-Day Losing Streak

Benchmark domestic equity indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, ended in positive territory today, snapping a four-day losing streak. Although the indices opened on a negative note, but soon they recovered and traded with gains for most of the intraday session. The Sensex gained 159 points, to close at 85 thousand 265, while the Nifty added 48 points, to settle at 26 thousand and 34. The broader market indices at the Bombay Stock Exchange edged down. The Mid-Cap index lost 0.2 per cent, while the Small-Cap index declined over 0.3 per cent.
 
 
In the Sensex pack, 18 out of 30 companies edged upward. In the top gainers, Tata Consultancy Services surged over one and half a per cent, Tech Mahindra rose almost 1.3 per cent and Infosys added over 1.2 per cent. Among the top laggards, Maruti shed 0.7 per cent, Eternal lost nearly 0.7 per cent and Kotak Bank fell over half a per cent.
 
 
Across sectoral indices at the BSE, 11 out of 21 sectors ended with gains. Among the top gainers, Focused IT advanced 1.4 per cent, IT gained 1.3 per cent, and Teck rose over 1.1 per cent. Among the key decliners, Services slipped 0.9 per cent, Industrials dipped around half a per cent and Power dropped over 0.4 per cent.
 
 
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative, as shares of 2,314 companies declined, 1,807 advanced, and 181 remained unchanged.
