Domestic markets end with gains paring initial losses

 Benchmark domestic equity indices today pared initial losses and ended with gains of over half per cent, snapping their three-day losing streak. The market recovered sharply as the day progressed, buoyed by broad-based buying. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, climbed 447 points, or 0.55 per cent to close at 81 thousand 338. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 advanced 140 points, or 0.57 per cent to settle at 24 thousand 821.

        The broader market indices at the BSE also closed up. The Mid-Cap index rose over 0.8 per cent and Small-Cap index added 1.1 per cent.      

        In the Sensex pack, 19 out of 30 companies ended in positive territory. Among the top gainers, Reliance surged 2.2 per cent, Larsen and Toubro climbed over 2.1 per cent, and Asian Paints advanced 1.8 per cent.  Among the top laggards, Axis Bank as well as TCS both lost 0.73 per cent each, Titan dropped over 0.4 per cent, and ITC dipped over 0.3 per cent.

        In Sectoral indices at the BSE, all sectors ended with gains. Among the top gainers, Realty rose over 1.6 per cent, Telecommunication advanced one and half per cent, and Energy added over 1.2 per cent.
        The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,482 companies advanced, shares of 1,521 companies declined, while shares of 154 companies remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 50 companies hit their 52-week high, while 56 hit their 52-week low.
