Senior BJP leader and PM Modi says Barrackpore played key role in 1857, the same land now paving way for change in Bengal

Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Barrackpore played a key role in 1857, giving strength to India’s first war of independence. He added that the same land is now paving the way for change in Bengal, with a clear call of “paltano dorkar” (change is needed). Addressing a public meeting at Jilepi Math, the Prime Minister said the entire country is witnessing the development of the Northeast, while Bengal is undergoing a historic transformation.

Mr. Modi further said this election in Bengal is an election to change the fortune of the entire eastern India. Mr. Modi added that the rise of India is not possible without the rise of the East, and both are complementary to each other. Prime Minister Modi also criticised the ruling Trinamool Congress, saying TMC has forgotten the promise with which they formed the government in this state. He added that for 15 years they were given the opportunity, yet they did nothing for mothers, for women’s safety, they did nothing for the soil, the farmers, the youth, or the people.

Meanwhile, Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee has multiple programs scheduled for the day. She will walk in a public outreach march from Sukanta Setu in Jadavpur in support of the party’s candidates for the Jadavpur and Tollygunge constituencies. Later, she has a public outreach program in her own constituency, Bhabanipur. Trinamool’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is scheduled to campaign in Ranaghat, Hooghly, Arambagh, and Maheshtala in support of party candidates.
