In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, security has been intensified across the Jammu region, especially along the borders with Pakistan, ahead of Independence Day. A multi-layer security arrangement, duly backed by ground and aerial surveillance has been put in place across Jammu and Kashmir to thwart any untoward incident during the Independence Day celebrations.
Checking and patrolling have been increased and police have deployed additional Quick Response Teams (QRTs) in Jammu city. Border grid security has been tightened and all border roads are being kept under a strict watch and adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure Independence Day passes off peacefully.
Army and Border Security Force have intensified vigil all along the 225 km Line of Control (LoC) and 192 km International Border (IB). The area domination and checking in the hinterland have also been stepped up as part of the heightened security arrangements.
The Police have issued a security advisory in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, seeking people’s cooperation during checking and also asked them to report to security agencies any suspicious movement or object. Security on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) has also been tightened and drones have also been deployed.
Cultural programs and Har Ghar Tiranga campaigns are being organized in schools, colleges, and government offices in all the 10 districts of Jammu region in the run up to Independence Day celebrations. The spirit of unity and pride is visible across districts, as citizens actively participate in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The main function of Independence Day in Jammu will be held at Maulana Azad Stadium where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will unflur the tricolour and take the salute. Whereas, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside over the Independence Day main function to be held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
