The State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has written to the DGP to initiate legal action against TVK President Vijay for the alleged use of children for political gain during the elections. It also urged the DGP to ensure the immediate removal of videos from social media depicting children being used as influencers for political purposes.
The commission has also written to the Chief Election Commissioner seeking appropriate action in the matter. The SCPCR acted on a complaint filed by Tamil Nadu Child Rights Watch, which raised concerns about the emotional exploitation of children for electoral influence by Vijay in his speech.
In one of his speeches, Vijay compared the stubbornness of children in getting chocolates or toys and appealed to use similar tactics to urge their family members and elders to vote for him and his symbol, the whistle. There were videos from children who also refused to have food, urging their parents and others to stick to what he said. The videos went viral on social media platforms. The complainant said that the matter warrants a proper investigation to ensure justice for children.
