The Supreme Court today expressed its displeasure over the lackluster attitude of the Government of West Bengal regarding the execution of pending work for the Kolkata Metro project in the Chinrighata area.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, directed the State Government to abide by the Calcutta High Court’s order and provide the necessary assistance to the Metro Railway authorities.
Earlier, the State Government had appealed to the Supreme Court for more time to execute the work, which requires a traffic block at the Chinrighata section.
Today, the Supreme Court stated that the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) should act according to the previous Calcutta High Court order rather than appearing before the apex court.
The top court also clarified that the Government of West Bengal must not delay the execution of the Metro project on the pretext of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), as this is an old matter.
