In a major boost to financial inclusion in remote Manipur, the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI), Challa Sreenivasulu Setty, virtually inaugurated the SBI Parbung Branch from the bank’s Local Head Office in Guwahati today.
The new branch marks the first banking facility in Pherzawl district. Until now, residents had to travel long distances for routine banking services. With the branch operational, customers can now access savings and current accounts, deposits, and other essential financial services within the district. Deputy Commissioner of Pherzawl, Mannuamching, IAS, who joined the virtual inauguration along with district officials, welcomed the move. She said the presence of a nationalised bank would strengthen governance and improve public service delivery. “Pherzawl is no longer an unbanked district,” she said.
