Russia’s defence ministry today claimed that Ukrainian forces have fired four U.S.-supplied Army Tactical Missile System, ATACMS, at the southern Russian city of Voronezh, in an attempt to target civilians. Ukraine, meanwhile, acknowledged for the first time on Monday that it had carried out strikes on military targets inside Russia.
According to media reports, the move marks the first time Ukraine has publicly acknowledged using the advanced US-provided ballistic missile systems against Russian territory, even though the restriction on such strikes was lifted by the outgoing Biden administration a year ago. Kyiv received the ATACMS missiles systems in 2023 but was initially limited to using them only within its own territory, nearly a fifth of which remains occupied by Russia.
