In Jammu & Kashmir, the normal life has been affected across Kashmir region due to restrictions imposed across all districts of Kashmir following widespread protests against the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatullah Syed Ali Khamenei, in US Israel bombing in Iran. The precautionary measures have been taken to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the Valley.
All government and private schools and colleges have been closed for today and tomorrow in Kashmir region. The Central University of Kashmir has also suspended its class work today and tomorrow. The Kashmir University and Islamic University of Science & Technology have also suspended the classwork for today and postponed examinations until new notifications are issued.
The security has been beefed up throughout the region with additional deployments of police and paramilitary personnel in the sensitive areas. The City Centre Lal Chowk in Srinagar has been sealed and declared out of bounds for both pedestrians and vehicular movement. Similar situation has been reported from elsewhere in the region. However, thin private transport is plying in almost all parts of Kashmir while avoiding restricted areas.
Other parts of Srinagar have also witnessed restrictions, particularly in downtown areas and major intersections considered sensitive in view of Shia muslim dominated pockets in Srinagar and elsewhere in Kashmir region. Security personnel are conducting patrols while checkpoints have been established to regulate movement. Authorities have urged locals to maintain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and harmony.
