Red alert issued in Punjab as severe heatwave grips region, relief likely from June 15

In Punjab, the Met Department has issued a red alert for today and tomorrow at many places. People have been experiencing severe heat wave conditions for the last 4-5 days with the maximum temperature hovering between 40 to 45 degrees Celsius.

 

According to the Chandigarh Met Department, warm nights at isolated places would also continue for another day. However, though the heat wave conditions would continue on June 14th as well but thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is expected to give some relief from June 15th to 17th.
Bathinda and Amritsar were the warmest with 45.8 degrees Celsius yesterday. Faridkot, Fazilka and Gurdaspur recorded above 44 degrees Celsius.

 

Today’s minimum temperature in Bathinda was 26.6 degrees Celsius. All other districts recorded above this, with Chandigarh recording a minimum of 31.8 degree Celsius this morning.
