The Rajya Sabha is discussing the Appropriation (No. 2) Bill 2026. It seeks to authorise payment and appropriation of certain sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of India for the services of the financial year 2026-27. After the discussion, the legislation will be returned to the Lok Sabha.
The Lower House had passed the legislation last week.
Participating in the discussion, Madan Rathore of the BJP said the government is working to ensure that the people of the country do not face any problems with essential commodities. He criticised the opposition for spreading rumours about cooking gas and petroleum products.
Mr Ratore said the nominal GDP has tripled from over 106 lakh crore in 2014-15 to over 331 lakh crore in 2024-25 in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
Neeraj Dangi of Congress said the country is facing several challenges in employment generation, control on inflation, strengthening the agriculture sector and infrastructure development. He said the legislation will help tackle the challenges if the funds are spent with transparency. Mr Dangi said that rural development, health and education need more focus.
