Rajya Sabha elections announce four winning candidates in Odisha

The results of the Rajya Sabha elections from Odisha were declared today, with four candidates emerging victorious in a closely watched contest. Mr Manmohan Samal and Mr Sujeet Kumar have been elected to the Upper House as BJP nominees. Former Union Minister Dilip Ray, who was backed by the BJP, also registered a notable victory as an Independent candidate, defeating Dr Datteswar Hota, who was the common candidate of the BJD, Congress and CPI (M). A few MLAs from the opposition BJD and Congress had cross-voted in favour of Mr Ray, defying the party whip.  Mr Santrupt Mishra of the BJD has also been declared elected, ensuring the regional party’s continued representation in the Upper House.
