Rajya Sabha continues discussion on significance of 150th Anniversary of the National Song Vande Mataram

The Rajya Sabha today resumed the discussion on the 150th Anniversary of the National Song Vande Mataram. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had initiated the discussion on Vande Mataram yesterday. Participating in the discussion, Jairam Ramesh of Congress, alleged that this discussion on Vande Mataram was aimed at discrediting Jawaharlal Nehru. He said, in every session of Congress, this national song was recited.
       
Sandosh Kumar of CPI said that the song Vande Mataram was inspirational for thousands of the freedom fighters and leaders like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, and Khudiram Bose. He said it is in the soul of the nation and is still inspiring everyone. Debashish Samantaray of BJD said, the Vande Mataram song was the voice to free India.
 
Ramilaben Becharbhai Bara ofthe  BJP said the song Vande Mataram was an inspiration for all people to free India from British rule. Another BJP leader, Ram Chander Jangra, said Vande Mataram is a source of inspiration for all whole India. He said, on 7th November 1875, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee wrote India’s national song, which became a powerful symbol of India’s freedom movement against the British. 
 
Manas Ranjan Mangaraj of BJD said that Bankim Chandra Chatterjee had not only written the song Vande Mataram but also awakened the nation against British rule. He said the song is a unifying, inclusive anthem, and Vande Mataram must receive constitutional recognition.
 
Mahua Manji of JMM said that Vande Mataram is not only a song but is a primary mantra of the freedom struggle.
 
Swati Maliwal of AAP said that Vande Mataram is not only a song, but it is a source of inspiration which empowered the countrymen to fight against the Britishers during the freedom struggle.
 
Ramdas Athawale of RPI said chanting Vande Mataram gives power to the people of the country.
 
BJP MP Baburam Nishad said Vande Mataram united the entire nation during the freedom struggle. He expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving everyone the opportunity to everyone to pay tributes to Vande Mataram during its 150th anniversary.
 
Another BJP MP, Dr Sumer Singh Solanki, said Vande Mataram is the mantra which energises 140 crore Indians with patriotism.
 
Dr Fauzia Khan of NCP-SCP said people should sing Vande Mataram with the devotion that it demands. She said everyone must be careful that this song is not treated as a mere ceremony or celebration. She added that people should submit themselves to the service of the motherland through concrete action.
 
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that the special discussion on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram will conclude tomorrow with the address of Union Minister and Leader of the House JP Nadda. He said that after this discussion, the Rajya Sabha will take up a discussion on Election Reforms. Later, the House was adjourned for the day.
