Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today said that only a strong police force can build a strong nation, and this is the aim of the government. He said this in his address after laying a wreath and paying homage to the martyrs at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.
Mr Singh said the military and police may have different platforms, but their mission is the same, which is national security. The military protects the country; the police protect society. While the military ensures geographic integrity, the police safeguard India’s social integrity. He also said that in today’s time, police have to fight perception along with maintaining law and order in society.
The Defence Minister added that as the country enters the Amrit Kal and looks toward building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, balancing India’s internal and external security has become more important than ever.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on 21st October to pay homage to ten valiant policemen who laid down their lives in an ambush laid by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Heads of Central Armed Police Forces, Central Police Organisations also paid homage to the martyrs by laying wreaths. A joint parade of Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police was held.
