Defence PSUs contribute 71.6% of total in country’s defence production in FY 2024-25- Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today emphasised that India achieved defence production worth around 1 lakh 51 thousand crore rupees in the year 2024-25, with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) contributing 71.6 per cent of the total.

The Minister made these remarks after inaugurating the Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) Bhavan, a state-of-the-art central facility at the World Trade Centre in New Delhi. He said that Defence exports reached 6 thousand 695 crore rupees, underscoring global confidence in India’s indigenous systems.

He added that this clearly indicates that Made in India defence products are gaining global respect. Mr Singh also urged the DPSUs to enhance research and development (R&D), indigenisation, and exports to make India a global defence hub.

Commending the DPSUs for their steadfast contribution to strengthening India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and advancing the vision of a self-reliant India, Mr Singh said that all 16 DPSUs are serving as strong pillars of the country’s self-reliance.

He also highlighted that their excellent performance in operations like Operation Sindoor testifies to the reliability and capability of our indigenous platforms. Mr Singh further lauded India Optel Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited for achieving 100 per cent green energy transition.

Defence PSU Bhavan is envisioned as a hub of synergy, innovation, and collaboration among all Defence PSUs under the Department of Defence Production. It features advanced conference halls, display zones and a Simulation Room using AR/VR to recreate real battlefield conditions.

On the occasion, the Defence Minister also chaired the Annual Performance Review meeting of the 16 Defence PSUs and reviewed the performance. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and Secretary (Defence Production) Sanjeev Kumar were also present at the event.

Mr Singh felicitated Munitions India Limited, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, India Optel Limited (IOL) and Hindustan Shipyard Limited on attaining Miniratna (Category-I) status. He also launched key initiatives, including the release of HAL’s new Research and Development (R&D) Manual, a compilation of R&D projects, and SWAYAM – Sustainable and Green Defence Manufacturing, a report highlighting renewable energy initiatives across the DPSUs.
