Railways Introduces Over 1,000 New Trains and Thousands of Coaches: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that around 1,024 new trains have been introduced across the country in the post-COVID period.
 
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Mr Vaishnaw said, along with this, 4,651 new coaches have also been added to existing trains. He said, Railways is the transport of the poor and middle class, and the government is focusing on providing smooth and affordable transportation services to them. The Minister said that 78 per cent of the total seats in trains belong to general and sleeper categories. 
 
Mr Vaishnaw informed that the Railway has undertaken several anti-fraud measures to ensure seamless ticket booking for genuine users. He said that over three crore fake IRCTC accounts have been deactivated.
 
On the safety of the railway, the Minister said that due to the strong focus on safety, train accidents have reduced by 90 per cent. Mr Vaishnaw informed that an investment of one lakh 20 thousand crore rupees is being made towards safety.
