Railway Ministry Allocates ₹14,205 Crore for West Bengal, Announces Bullet Train

Railway ministry has allocated 14,205 crore rupees for West Bengal in 2026-27. Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said, the bullet train in India will connect Varanasi to Siliguri in West Bengal. This train will be expanded to Assam later. The Minister was addressing the media in a post budget interaction virtually today.

He also mentioned about the Dankuni to Surat freight corridor. He said, instead of the court order, the state government of West Bengal has not given land for Metro rail project at Chinrighata in Kolkata. Mr. Vaishnaw said, in the past 40 years 27 kilometres of metro railway lines were laid in Kolkata, whereas in the past 11 years, under the NDA government, 45 kilometres of lines were laid. He also informed that to stop the elephant-death due to train collision, AI technology would be used.
