The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has filed a 40,000-page charge-sheet against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister, Bikram Singh Majithia, in the disproportionate assets case, in a Mohali court, yesterday. The charge sheet has been formally submitted to the court along with the supporting documents. Officials said the investigation was conducted to examine allegations of corruption and misuse of political office.
Majithia was arrested on June 25 at his Amritsar residence in the case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Prosecution counsel said the statements of more than 200 witnesses had been recorded, and a scrutiny of 400 bank accounts was also done. Earlier, the Mohali court had dismissed the bail plea of Majithia on August 18, who is currently lodged in the New Nabha jail and had extended his judicial custody till August 28.
