Punjab Police report up to 69% drop in gangster-related crimes

Punjab Police is claiming a significant decline of up to 69% in gangster-related murders and firing incidents in the last three months since the launch of the operation ‘‘Gangstran Te Vaar” in the state on January 20th this year. This has been made possible because of the help of the worried general public also which is coming forward to provide inputs to the police in ending gangsterism in the state.

People from across the state are calling up on toll-free Anti-Gangster Helpline No: 93946-93946, to report extortion-related calls they get or instances of any incidents related to gangsters.

Quoting police sources, our Jalandhar Correspondent reports that the helpline setup by the state government for anyone to report anonymously is getting about 175 calls every month regarding gangsters related crimes since the launch of the operation.

The data also suggests a 100% decline in gangster-linked murder cases since January. However, cases of extortion, though dropped by about 11%, from 110 reported in January to 98 in March, are still giving jitters to those targeted and the general public as well.
