In Punjab, in a significant breakthrough, the state police dismantled a major trans-border smuggling network of sophisticated arms and drug money and arrested five people in the crackdown in Amritsar today. The network, operated by Pakistan-ISI backed handlers, was successfully busted by the Punjab Police in a joint operation with the central agencies.
According to the State’s Director General of Police Chief Gaurav Yadav, the crackdown led to the seizure of an AK Saiga 308 assault rifle, two pistols with magazines, 100 live cartridges of both weapons, along with 7.50 lakh rupees of drug money, a car and mobile phones. The Punjab Police Chief said, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had direct links to Pakistan-based ISI operatives. He said, the arrests and seizure indicated a broader terror-gangster nexus.
