To mark the 50th anniversary of the imposition of the Emergency in India, ‘Samvidhan Hatya Divas’ was observed across India.
Punjab state level programme was organized at the state capital Chandigarh. This solemn and reflective event was attended and addressed by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, as the Chief Guest.
Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the imposition of Emergency in 1975 was a “constitutional murder” and that today’s youth must be made aware of this dark chapter in India’s democratic history.
Arunachal Pradesh today joined the rest of the nation in observing Samvidhan Hatya Divas, marking the imposition of Emergency in the country on this day in 1975. Speaking at a function held at DK Convention Centre in Itanagar, Governor Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) said the day serves as a reminder of the Emergency period and the importance of preventing any misuse of power in a democratic setup.
Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan accompanied by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today flagged off a citizens rally from Raj Bhavan on the occasion of ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ organised to commemorate the 50th anniversary of proclamation of national emergency. The Governor felicitated 5 Emergency Satyagrahis from Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban districts who were imprisoned during the emergency.
In Haryana, Union Minister of State SP Baghel said that the Indian Constitution is a sacred text for the country. Therefore, everyone should respect the Constitution. He was speaking as the chief guest in the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas program organized in Kurukshetra today. He said that amendments are made inside the Constitution in the interest of the country. But making amendments for personal gain or chair is equal to killing the Constitution.
Sikkim observed Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas 2025 today marking the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Emergency in India. A commemorative rally was held from MG Marg to Manan Kendra in Gangtok, led by Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang. He\s described the Emergency as a dark and challenging period in the nation’s democratic history.
Nagaland today joined the rest of the country in observing Samvidhan Hatya Diwas across various district headquarters. Several programmes were organized by the district administrations and district cultural offices across the state, reflecting on the events and implications of the Emergency imposed in 1975- a period widely regarded as a critical turning point in India’s constitutional and democratic history. The day also served as a solemn tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those who stood against the Emergency.
