In a bid to combat the menace of drug addiction in Punjab, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh held a crucial meeting with experts yesterday to discuss the creation of a comprehensive Mental Health Policy in the state.
Chairing the session titled “Punjab’s Journey to Wellness: With Psychological Well-Being,” Dr Singh emphasized the need for a holistic approach that prioritizes mental health in tackling drug abuse. He stressed the importance of reducing the stigma surrounding drug addiction and urged society to show empathy and support to those struggling with substance abuse.
Dr Singh directed officials to empower drug users through skill development programs, aiming to rehabilitate them in specialized centres. He also called for connecting these individuals to employment opportunities through various government initiatives, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives.
