In Punjab, to calculate the damage done to the standing crops in the fields due to the inclement weather for the last many days, the state government has formed teams of 500 officials from the agriculture department to assess losses. These teams have been strictly directed to work in close coordination with the Revenue Department to ensure the smooth execution of the ‘Special Girdawari’ (crop loss assessment) to provide early relief to the affected farmers.
As per the preliminary reports, wheat crops across more than 1.35 lakh acres have been impacted by the recent rains and hailstorms, mostly in 7 districts, including Amritsar, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Bathinda, Mansa, Ferozepur and Moga.
Directions have also been issued to the field officials to maintain constant contact with the farming community and provide technical guidance where necessary to salvage the remaining crop.
