Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria described Chandigarh as a testament to modern India’s vision of planned development, calling it a globally recognised model of balanced urban living. He also congratulated those who contributed in its creation and appreciated the role of the Administration in maintaining the city’s unique character through planned growth, cleanliness, green spaces and improved civic infrastructure. He was addressing the gathering at ‘75 Years of Chandigarh: Honouring Indian Modernists of Chandigarh’, an event to commemorate the city’s 75th anniversary.

 

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kataria described Chandigarh, which is known as The City Beautiful, as a symbol of modern India’s vision and planned development. He referred to the city’s journey since its development began in 1951 and highlighted the need to preserve its heritage while moving towards sustainable and future-ready development.
