Punjab Government has notified a ‘Reward Policy’ to arrest wanted criminals in the state, including absconders, proclaimed offenders, habitual offenders, and accused persons deliberately evading arrest. The award money will range from up to Rs. 1 lakh to above Rs. 2 lakhs.
Approved by the state cabinet, the policy has authorised senior police officers to sanction rewards to members of the public whose information leads to arrests, as well as to police officers and officials who carry out exceptional operations. The identity of people providing information will be protected at all stages.
State Police Chief Gaurav Yadav said the policy will motivate people to provide information about criminals and help in making Punjab safe.
