Punjab DSP Held in Sangrur Jail Drug Racket; Heroin, Cash, Weapons Seized

Punjab Police, in a major crackdown, have busted a smuggling racket operating from within Sangrur Jail, leading to the arrest of the prison’s security in charge, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gurpreet Singh.

 

According to State DGP Gaurav Yadav, the DSP was arrested for his active involvement in drug smuggling activities and supply of mobile phones inside the jail and accepting payments via UPI accounts linked to his family. The investigation also resulted in the arrest of a Class IV jail employee, Manpreet Singh, who allegedly worked in coordination with inmate Gurvinder Singh to facilitate the smuggling. During the operation, police recovered 4 kg of heroin, 5.5 lakh rupees in drug money and a pistol with live cartridges. Besides, nine mobile phones, four smartwatches, 50 grams of opium, and other contraband items were recovered during a raid inside the jail.
