Punjab is facing a grim flood situation. Heavy flow of water from hilly areas in Raavi, Beas and Satluj rivers, full to the brim dams leading to controlled release of water and rain in some parts of the state are adding to the woes of the people in the flood affected districts of the state.
The River Raavi, which has received over 14.11 lakh cusec water till date has inundated many areas. This is the highest discharge the state has ever received. In the year 1988, when the state witnessed severe floods, the water discharge was 11.20 lakh cusec.
Almost all the ministers, MLAs, senior bureaucrats are in the field to inspect, review and take action for rescue and relief operations in the areas of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur and some other affected districts. Reinforcement works to stop the overflowing of Ghaggar and Tangri Nadi are on to control its flow from inundating areas in Patiala district.
Indian Army, Indian Airforce, BSF and its aviation wing, NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police and voluntary organizations are working 24×7 on war footing to evacuate the stranded and provide relief material including medical aid.
The weatherman has warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Punjab for another September 1st.
