In Punjab, the disbursal of 395 crore rupees for modern Crop Residue Management machinery has resulted in a 53 per cent decline in stubble-burning cases during the Kharif season of 2025. The number of incidents has dropped from 10,909 in 2024 to 5,114 this year. The state government has provided subsidies ranging from 50 to 80 per cent to 5,358 beneficiaries, including Gram Panchayats, Custom Hiring Centres, supply chains and 4,181 individual farmers.
The initiative aims not only to achieve zero stubble burning but also to enhance farmers’ incomes. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the government is offering end-to-end solutions – from ensuring machinery availability at the village level to creating strong market linkages for paddy straw – to make Punjab a stubble-burning-free state.
