In view of the upcoming General Elections to the Puducherry Legislative Assembly, the Election Department, Puducherry, has launched an extensive voter awareness campaign to increase voter turnout, enhance electoral participation, and sensitise first-time as well as existing voters about the voting process and the use of Electronic Voting Machines.
As part of the initiative, EVM Demonstration Centres have been set up at the District Election Offices and Collectorates in Puducherry and Karaikal districts. In addition, one EVM Demonstration Centre has been established at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer in each Assembly Constituency.
To further strengthen outreach, a Mobile Demonstration Van campaign has also been launched. The van is travelling to one Assembly Constituency each day, covering areas around all polling stations in that constituency. Chief Electoral Officer of Puducherry, P. Jawahar, has urged electors to make full use of these facilities to gain hands-on experience of the voting process. He also said that for any election-related clarification, the public can contact the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1950.
