Puducherry Bans Sale of Coldrif Syrup Batch After Detection of Toxic Chemical

The Puducherry Drug Control Department has prohibited the purchase, distribution, and sale of a specific batch of Coldrif syrup after it was found to contain toxic chemical substances. The department has also directed that the affected batch be immediately withdrawn from the market. According to an order issued by the Drug Controlling Authority of Tamil Nadu, the Department had earlier cautioned that a particular batch of Coldrif syrup was adulterated with diethylene glycol – a toxic compound known to cause severe poisoning, kidney failure, and even death.

The order further instructed that medicines containing similar chemical compositions should be sold only on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner, with proper records of such sales maintained. Dealers violating these directions will face suspension or cancellation of their drug sales licence, the order added.
